Adrien Christophe van Trigt was, as was already noted in his In Memoriam in 1864, a double talent. Not only was he an extraordinarily skilled physician, but also a very gifted draftsman. He handled the pencil and brush with equal skill as the dissecting scalpel.

His work is extremely rare, in contrast to that of his father, who was a surgeon in Dordrecht and also very artistically gifted. A large part of his father’s drawings ended up in Teylers Museum. The work of A.C. van Trigt is often confused with that of his father. This sheet depicts birds.

He obtained his doctorate in medicine in Utrecht in 1854 and lived in Amsterdam, where he was a member of the Royal Society Natura Artis Magistra (N.A.M. Yearbook 1856 p. 62 and 1863 p. 67).
