Flemish Masters the Legacy of the Collectie P. en N. de Boer

Step into the golden age of Flemish painting with Kunsthandel P. de Boer, where the grandeur of the Flemish Masters is brought to life through masterpieces spanning centuries. From the dynamic brushwork of Peter Paul Rubens, the theatricality of Jacob Jordaens, to the refined elegance of Anthony van Dyck, our collection highlights the flourishing artistic culture of the 16th and 17th centuries.

These artists, central to the Antwerp school, defined the Baroque period with a vivid interplay of drama, realism, and emotion. At Kunsthandel P. de Boer, we honour their legacy not only through historic acquisitions but also by safeguarding the tradition of Flemish art through ongoing curation and research.

The Flemish collectie P. en N. de Boer

The foundation of our Flemish collection lies in the exceptional Collectie P. en N. de Boer – an evolving private collection built with dedication, scholarship, and an eye for detail. This collection was shaped by the passion of art connoisseurs Pieter and Nicolaas de Boer and continues to inform our curatorial vision today.

As custodians of this historic collection, we have worked to preserve and present Flemish paintings of the highest quality. The collection includes works from key figures of the Northern and Southern Netherlands, with a focus on those who shaped the visual culture of their time and region.

A Continuing Legacy: Bruegel, Grimmer, Van Uden, and Frans Floris

Our current collection extends beyond the great triumvirate of Rubens, Jordaens, and Van Dyck to include lesser-known yet equally captivating names from the Flemish tradition. Among them:

  • Jan Bruegel the Younger – known for his lively depictions of peasant life and moralistic landscapes, continuing the legacy of his famous father.
  • Jacob Grimmer – Jacob Grimmer painted detailed Flemish landscapes, echoing Pieter Bruegel’s style with seasonal, rustic scenes.
  • Lucas van Uden – a skilled landscape painter, often collaborating with Rubens and Jan Brueghel the Elder.
  • Frans Floris – one of the earliest Flemish painters to adopt the Italian Renaissance style, bringing classical elegance to Northern art.
